Back To Basics: Deep Dive Part 11
Remember the big D (“Developer”)
Analysis the developer understands
Much of a software analyst’s work involves communication. Here’s a few practical hits to consider as you embark on this journey.
Let’s be honest, software developers in general do not like to read a specification. I know, I was one and also worked with many.
The problem with so many specifications is that it is super hard to read.
When writing a spec, here’s the acid test if it’s any good:
Does the developer really know what he must do?
So, here are the mistakes being made in documenting requirements:
- Too high level – lack of detail
- Not logically structured
- Lack of developer collaboration
It is crucial that the software analyst collaborates with development in the crafting of the solution. Remember, a developer becomes a software analyst’s best friend! - Henkie Maritz
